Manter Black is a typeface created for the redesign of Top Manta‘s visual identity, with the purpose of expressing its intercultural, reivindicative, and urban spirit. It plays a key role in this graphic system, providing identity and personality to the brand’s visual communication.

It is a Display typeface, designed to reflect the ethnic and social essence of Top Manta. Its aesthetic, inspired by African wax prints, integrates jagged structures, geometric patterns, and rounded counterforms, achieving a unique and expressive style.

In addition to its aesthetic and formal value, Manter Black is a versatile graphic resource, ideal for application in various areas of the brand and reinforcing its message of resistance and creativity.

Manter Black is a custom-made typeface, designed to complement HEX Franklin XCondensed – XBold in communication elements and in spaces where an elevated brand tone is sought. Both typefaces share structure, weight, and metrics, achieving a coherent visual integration.

The result is a condensed, bold, and distinctive typeface, especially designed for display uses and crafted to stand out in large bodies of text.

HEX Franklin pays homage to the iconic Franklin Gothic, a grotesque sans-serif typeface from the early 20th century, but with a more modern and refined aesthetic, ideal for reflecting an intercultural character.

In the new graphic system, the XCondensed – XBold variant has been selected to complement Manter Black, optimizing visual impact in reduced spaces.

By selecting the counterforms of the uppercase and lowercase of Manter Black, we obtain a range of versatile shapes that allow for the creation of masks and innovative compositions to integrate images and texts. From these counterforms, we can create new patterns and wax prints that identify with Top Manta, applicable in both digital contexts and the brand’s products. These African prints, characteristic of West Africa, are very popular for their unique style, featuring geometric, floral, and abstract patterns.
